QuietSkies Privacy Policy

QuietSkies is made by Apaisant. This policy explains, in plain terms, what the app does and does not do with your information. The short version: QuietSkies keeps your information on your device, has no accounts, shows no ads, and runs no analytics or trackers. The main thing that leaves your device is your location: it goes to a third-party weather service (Open-Meteo) for your forecast, and to your phone's own place-name service to label your suburb. Neither request reaches us.

The short version

• We do not run a server of our own, and we store nothing about you. Nothing you do in the app is kept by us.
• We do not require an account, an email, or a sign-in.
• We show no advertising and use no analytics, tracking, or advertising SDKs.
• Your settings, your sensitivity and trigger choices, your daily feedback, and your cached forecast stay on your device.
• Information leaves your device for two things: your location goes to Open-Meteo (a third-party weather service) to return your forecast, and to your phone's own place-name service to turn your coordinates into a suburb name for the header.

What stays on your device

All of the following is stored only on your device and is never sent to us or to anyone else:

• Your comfort profile: which conditions overwhelm you, your sensitivity level, and appearance settings.
• Your daily "How was today?" feedback and the calibration history built from it.
• The most recent forecast, cached for about three hours so the app works quickly and offline.
• Your last known location (from GPS, or the place you chose), so the app and its background refresh can work without asking again each time.
• The small data file that powers the home-screen widget.

Uninstalling QuietSkies deletes all of this. There is nothing held on a server for us to keep or delete, because there is no server.

What leaves your device, and why

To show you the weather, QuietSkies contacts Open-Meteo (https://open-meteo.com), an independent weather-data service:

• Your location. Either the coordinates from your device's GPS, or the coordinates of a place you type into the manual search. These are sent to Open-Meteo so it can return the forecast and, for the manual search, match the place name you typed.
• Your device's IP address. As with any request over the internet, the network request to Open-Meteo carries your device's IP address. How Open-Meteo handles that request is governed by its own privacy terms, which we do not control. See https://open-meteo.com.

To label your area in the app (for example, "Para Hills, SA"), QuietSkies also asks your phone's own place-name service to turn your GPS coordinates into a suburb name. On most Android phones this service is provided by Google as part of the operating system. That request goes to your phone's service, not to us; we receive nothing back from it, and the short place name it returns is kept only on your device.

QuietSkies sends no name, email, device identifier, or account with any of these requests, because it holds none. Apart from your phone's own operating-system services, Open-Meteo is the only network service QuietSkies contacts.

Permissions we ask for

• Location: to work out the weather where you are. You can decline it and type a location manually instead.
• Notifications: so the app can show a gentle morning briefing and hazard heads-ups. Optional; the app works without them.
• Ignore battery optimisation: an optional prompt that helps scheduled alerts arrive on time on phones that aggressively sleep apps. You can decline it.

You can change or withdraw any of these in your device settings at any time.

Analytics, advertising, and tracking

None. QuietSkies contains no analytics, no advertising, no marketing SDKs, and no third-party trackers. We do not sell your information, we do not share it for advertising, and we do not profile you. The only transfers of any kind are sending your location to Open-Meteo to fetch the forecast, and to your phone's own place-name service to label your area, both described above.

Children

QuietSkies is a general-audience wellbeing tool and is not directed at children under 13. It collects no personal information and creates no account, so it does not knowingly gather information from anyone, including children.

Where QuietSkies is offered

QuietSkies is made in Australia for an Australian audience. It is offered in English and is not targeted at, marketed to, or localised for users in the European Union or the United Kingdom, and we do not assume the EU GDPR or UK GDPR apply to it. If you use QuietSkies from outside Australia and have a question about your data, you are welcome to contact us at the address above.

Your rights

Because your information stays on your device and we hold nothing about you, there is no account to access, export, or erase on our side. To remove everything QuietSkies stores, uninstall the app. Wherever you are, if you have a question about this policy or your privacy, contact us at the address above.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, we will update it here and change the date at the top. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
